This one is a joke. The numbers behind it are invented for comic effect, not measured, estimated, or researched — nothing on this page tells you anything true about you or about any animal. Every other calculator on this site is built to give you a number you can actually use. This is not one of those.
What this calculates
You put in three lifts and a bodyweight, pick an animal, and it tells you how many of that animal you could fight. The answer is usually a fraction, and the fraction is the joke. There is no sense in which this is a measurement. What it does have going for it is consistency — the same inputs always give the same answer, so you and a friend can compare and one of you can be smug about a number that means nothing.
How it works
Your three lifts and your bodyweight are added together in pounds, giving a number somewhere around 1,100 for a reasonably strong adult. Each animal carries a "fight score" that we invented and then tuned until the punchlines landed — a goose is 25, a gorilla is 5,000, an elephant is 26,000. Dividing one by the other gives the result. The scores are not strength estimates, not bite-force figures, and not derived from anything; they exist to make the goose number absurdly high and the gorilla number humiliatingly low, because that is funnier.
Worked example
A 180 lb person benching 225, squatting 315 and pulling 405 totals 1,125. Against a goose at 25, that is 45 geese. Against a gorilla at 5,000, it is 0.225 of a gorilla. Both numbers are equally meaningless, which is the point — but notice that only one of them makes you feel good, and it is the one about geese.
Common mistakes
Treating any of this as information. It is worth saying clearly, because the real numbers people quote about animal strength are barely better sourced than ours: the famous claim that a chimpanzee is five to eight times stronger than a human does not survive contact with the research. When it was actually measured, chimp muscle came out roughly 1.35 times as strong as human muscle for its size — a real difference, and nowhere near the folklore. The gorilla figure everyone repeats traces back to a single unverified anecdote. We would rather invent a number and admit it than repeat one of those and pretend.
Common questions
- Could I actually beat a goose?
- Geese are 10–14 lb and cannot really hurt you, so on paper, comfortably. In practice a goose has no concept of proportional response and you do, which is the entire advantage it needs. Do not fight a goose.
- Where do the animal numbers come from?
- We made them up. That is not a dodge — it is the honest version. Real comparative strength data across these species mostly does not exist, and the figures that circulate online are folklore. An invented number that admits it beats a folklore number that does not.
- Are chimps really five times stronger than people?
- No. That number is everywhere and it is wrong. Direct measurement puts chimpanzee muscle at around 1.35 times human muscle for the same size — genuinely stronger, not superhuman.
